The kitchen is the activity heart of your house, from rushed breakfasts before going to the office to hearty family dinners and a cup of tea with friends. It must be both functional and visually appealing.

The kitchen should be a location that brings joy to you, whether you’re cooking, baking, or dining, and intelligent kitchen design may help make that happen. These recommendations can help you create a room you’ll love if you’re planning a kitchen makeover or creating a new kitchen.

Follow our guide on how to design a kitchen layout, which includes suggestions on planning, organizing, and must-have features for a kitchen:

Remove Unnecessary Steps

Consider what duties you conduct the most frequently when creating a kitchen arrangement. Placing objects needed to execute a task together will save you a lot of time and energy.

Keep coffee mugs, grounds, and other necessities near the coffee machine, for example. Your sluggish early-morning self will appreciate it. Similarly, put wraps and plastic containers near a work area in one convenient location for packaging leftovers. Place dishware and flatware near the dishwasher to make unloading easier.

Make Room for the Sink

The location of your sink should be one of your first considerations as you start redesigning your kitchen. Your new sink’s fit in the kitchen and potential functionality may be impacted by how you arrange your new cabinets and drawers.

The location of the plumbing that emerges from the wall under the sink should be considered with the depth of the basin. If you live in Utah, you undoubtedly understand the significance of plumbing in your community. Following damage to a water main, the city of Tooele, Utah, issued a water-boil order for a portion of the city last year.

Having a modular kitchen means avoiding all of these problems, and a knowledgeable plumber can help you with that. Planning your remodeling around these crucial elements can make it run much more easily. If you live in a city like Tooele, you can make your kitchen very convenient by finding the right service provider for plumbing in Tooele, UT.

Plumbers charge, on average, $23.69 per hour. It will also not poke a big hole in your pocket and make your cooking time hassle-free.

Create Broad Pathways

Make sure your kitchen floor design provides adequate space between cabinets and the island for easy movement. Paths in a kitchen should be at least 36 inches wide as a general guideline. Aisles in the cooking zone should be 42 inches wide in a one-cook kitchen and 48 inches wide in a two-cook kitchen. Adjust kitchen islands and peninsulas properly while designing.

In a lot of cases, the flooring you decide on can make or break the kitchen. It is important to select flooring that is both high quality and capable of working in conjunction with other features in the kitchen. Amtico, for example, is a great option. Shop Amtico flooring at Lees Furnishers. They offer a phenomenal range at highly competitive prices.

Guide Visitors Around the Kitchen

When creating a kitchen layout, traffic movement is critical. You don’t want the cook continuously banging into folks entering and departing. If traffic runs from the kitchen to another area, avoid placing the range or cooktop along that busy corridor.

A central kitchen island is a great method to separate the working and social areas of the kitchen. It keeps family and friends close by to converse with the chef while keeping them out of the way.

Stay Away from Corners

When determining where to put cabinets and appliances, keep corners in mind. Plan room in your kitchen design for the clearance and swing direction of cabinet and appliance doors to ensure optimal functionality. Keep appliances away from corners, and ensure sure doors do not collide if they are both open at the same time.

If you need to work around a tight corner, consider low-profile handles. Knobs and appliance handles that protrude too far from the cabinet can also make it difficult to open adjoining corner cabinet doors.

Determine the Role of the Island

Form follows function when it comes to kitchen islands. Before you evaluate the design, consider how you want to use the island within the area. If you wish to cook and dine on the kitchen island, leave adequate space between the stove and the eating area. The island can also hold other items, such as a sink or dishwasher, for increased usefulness.

Make a Landing Zone Near Appliances

The landing area around appliances gives a convenient location for hot goods fresh from the oven or microwave. It’s also useful for preparing materials. Allow at least 15 inches of countertop space on each side of a burner and refrigerator when constructing your kitchen arrangement. A landing spot near other small equipment, such as a coffee maker or toaster, is also crucial.

Think About the Countertops

Consider your food preparation requirements to help determine your countertop selection—chefs who enjoy cooking demand more counter space (preferably between the range and the sink).

According to a survey, in the year 2022, countertops were renovated the most (91%), followed by backsplashes (86%) and sinks (84%). Installing countertops at two different heights can also make baking easier and assist children who are participating in food preparation.

Use Two Sets of Kitchen Appliances

Consider doubling up on your most often used equipment during kitchen design if you have a big family or significant culinary demands. A second oven and a mini-fridge placed at the work center’s periphery can help distribute the burden. Create an after-school hangout for the youngsters by installing a snack bar with seats.

Set up The Range Area

Plan to keep essential cooking items in the area directly surrounding the range. Place a shelf next to or behind the stove to store cooking oils, tools, and spices close to reaching. Make extra deep drawers for cookware near the range or under a cooktop part of your kitchen design. Install S-hooks on the side of the range hood to hang commonly used pots and pans for a more open kitchen design.

Include a Message Center

Create a message center in a visible location next to the refrigerator. Install a whiteboard on the wall to jot down reminders or grocery lists. A calendar, notebook, and writing tools should be kept in a nearby drawer or wall-mounted basket.

Consider the Electrical Outlets

Make sure there are sufficient electrical outlets in locations where you want to use a coffee maker, toaster oven, blender, or other countertop gadgets. Install additional outlets along the backsplash and on the island to ensure that you have power wherever you need it. Consider installing a drawer with outlets and USB connections to create a covert charging station for gadgets for added personalization.

Shorten Time to Clean the Kitchen

Kitchen cleaning is made easier by thoughtful design considerations. Glass refrigerator shelves, for example, collect spills that wire shelves do not. Sinks that are flush-set or under-mount do not have a crumb-catching rim to contend with. Matte coatings hide dirt better than shiny ones.

Disassemble Cabinetry Blocks

Cabinetry on the walls of a kitchen might make it look heavy and dull. Add fascinating elements like glass doors and display shelves to break up lengthy blocks of doors and drawers. You may also experiment with putting wine storage or windows between cabinet spaces.

In a Tiny Kitchen, Choose Light Colors

Dark color palettes may make an already tiny area feel smaller and less appealing. To visually extend a tiny area, use soft hues on kitchen cabinets. Install basic window coverings on large windows to ensure that the room receives enough natural light.

Select one main feature in your kitchen design that grabs the eye or makes a strong statement. Splashy backsplash tile, fancy flooring, a large range hood, colorful kitchen cabinetry, or patterned counters may all be the focal point. After you’ve decided on the focal point, add some calmer but still eye-catching touches to the surrounding area.
